December Rail Stats and Trends: Sad End to 2017

The December rail incident statistics are in—and unfortunately, 2017 didn’t wrap up quite the way we would have hoped. Instead of seeing a decrease in the number of rail-related deaths and injuries, incidents were up almost across the board.
 
Although the number of trespassing deaths was unchanged compared with December 2016, both injuries and fatalities at railway crossings doubled.
 
Remember, every rail-related incident is a tragedy—and every last one is preventable.
