Chilliwack Students Win Safety Award
CHILLIWACK - Two students from Chilliwack’s Chance School – Caylon Sommerville and Biran Moffat -- were presented today (Wednesday) with their prize for the winning entry in a school safety poster contest.
The presentation was made by Cst. Darren Dyck of CN Police; Dan Di Tota, National Director of Operation Lifesaver, and Patti Hamilton, coordinator of Block Watch. The initiative was organized to focus young people’s attention on the dangers of trespassing on railway property and highway/railway crossing safety.
Other local safety initiatives include introduction of a Safe Communities program in Chilliwack, and community work by Block Watch in cooperation with Canadian National Railway Police, Operation Lifesaver and Direction 2006.
The presentation and subsequent discussions followed on the heels of a safety blitz yesterday (Tuesday) in the lower mainland. Community, government and industry officials traveled on West Coast Express train service.
They handed out literature to commuters on station platforms between Mission and Waterfront Station, got feedback and suggestions from stakeholders, and delivered their safety message Any Time is Train Time; Look, Listen and Live!
