May 2018 another deadly month for rail incidents
May’s rail statistics are in, and the numbers aren’t going in the right direction.
Both trespassing and crossing fatalities were up in May 2018, compared to May 2017. Five people lost their lives in crossing incidents—that’s five times higher than the year before. Four people were also killed trespassing on railway property or tracks, up from three in May 2017.
Remember, virtually every incident is preventable—and even one death is too many. Let’s work together to get these numbers down to zero and make 2018 a summer to remember—for the right reasons.
Heed all warning signs and signals, keep off of train tracks and railway property, and heed Operation Lifesaver’s motto: “Look. Listen. Live.”
