Rail Safety Week - Saskatchewan

REGINA - The Saskatchewan Safety Council and its partners, CN Police, CP Police, RCMP, City of Regina Police and Prairie Driver Training kicked off the 2005 Rail Safety Week on April 26, 2005 with a news conference focusing on large trucks.

Over the past five years in Saskatchewan, there have been 31 collisions at rail crossing in involving heavy trucks. The most recent collision, at Balgonie, demonstrated the extensive damage and cost to both the train and the truck involved in the collision.

After the news conference, there was an enforcement blitz around Regina involving all CN,CP, Regina and RCMP police forces. The goal of the blitz was to make people aware of the laws surrounding rail lines and to provide public education on rail safety.
