October Rail Stats and Trends: It is Time for Things to Change

Every month, we publish the number of railway crossing and trespassing incidents across the country. And every month we hope to see the number of injuries and fatalities go down dramatically.

Unfortunately, that drop isn’t happening, especially when it comes to trespassing.

In September, the number of fatal trespassing incidents was seven times higher than the year before. October’s numbers were a little better, but not decreasing the way we would like.

There were four deaths as a result of a trespassing in October 2017. That’s down from six in October 2016, but still higher than the 5-year average.

Remember, every incident is preventable—and even one death is too many. Please help us to spread the rail safety message and save lives.
