The numbers are in and it isn’t good news. Crossing incidents way up in August

August was a busy month on Canada’s roads—and the rail stats prove it. Unfortunately, they also show that drivers are taking unnecessary risks at railway crossings. Last month, the number of railway crossing incidents was more than five times higher than in August 2016, and well above the five-year average. There were 17 incidents in August 2016, compared to just 3 the year before. On the bright side, the number of trespassing incidents was down. There were only four incidents in August 2017, compared to five in August 2016. Let’s work together to spread the rail safety message because every railway crossing collision or trespassing incident is one that can be avoided.
