Calling all Thomas & FriendsTM fans: Check out OL’s new art contest

Is there a young train enthusiast in your family? Do they love following the adventures of Thomas, Percy, Gordon and James? Well, Operation Lifesaver Canada has just the contest for them! Not only will they get the chance to be creative and to win some great Thomas & FriendsTM prizes, they’ll learn some rail safety tips that will help keep them safe.

As part of Rail Safety Week 2021 (September 20 to 26) we’re launching a new art contest for children. The Stay Safe with Thomas Rail Safety Art Contest is open to Canadian children aged eight and younger. But entries will be split into two age categories: 4- to 6-year-olds and 7- to 8-year-olds.

“Operation Lifesaver’s goal is to save lives by ensuring that Canadians of all ages know how to stay safe around tracks and trains,” says Sarah Mayes, National Director of Operation Lifesaver Canada. “This contest is the perfect way to teach kids some important rail safety rules, while encouraging them be creative and to engage with some characters that they know and love.”

Get your young train enthusiast on board!

We’re asking kids to create a static piece of original visual artwork—such as a painting, drawing, digital poster, or comic strip. Each entry must depict one or more Thomas & FriendsTM characters and must clearly convey one of OL’s five important rail safety messages:
  • Train or track? Just keep back!
  • Never use tracks as a path or a shortcut
  • Don't play near tracks or on train equipment
  • Always obey railway signs and signals
  • Stand well behind the yellow line on train station platforms

Contestants will have the opportunity to win some fantastic Thomas & FriendsTM prize packs, as well as a train trip for four anywhere in the Quebec-Windsor corridor, courtesy of Mattel and VIA Rail Canada. The contest gets rolling September 20, 2021 and all entries must be received electronically by midnight (ET), October 20, 2021.
