Enter the Contest

Who can enter?

The contest is open to Canadians 12 years of age and younger. Judging will be split into the following three age categories: 
 
  • 4- to 6-year-olds
  • 7- to 9-year-olds
  • 10- to 12-year-olds

What do I have to draw?

We are asking our Rail Safety Artists to create a visual art piece that demonstrates at least one of these important rail safety rules: 
 
Only one entry per person will be accepted.

What media can I use?

You can use any visual media you like for your artwork. It can be a drawing, painting, collage, advertisement, comic strip, or any other visual piece as long as it emphasizes one of the five listed rail safety messages. So, be as creative as possible!

The artwork can be on any size paper, but we ask that you use landscape format to make it easier to share your pieces on social media. Please upload a scan or digital photo of your artwork using the link below.

What are the prizes?

First and second place winners in each age category will win the following prize packages:

4- to 6-YEAR-OLDS

9- to 12-YEAR-OLDS

  • Crayola Art Inspiration Case
  • Selection of Operation Lifesaver promotional materials
 
All Rail Safety Artists will receive a certificate just for entering.

What are the judging criteria?

Our panel of judges will be looking for artwork that:
 
  • Incorporates at least one of our five listed rail safety messages
  • Shows Canadian railway signs and signals
  • Demonstrates creativity
 
The top three submissions for each category will be posted to Operation Lifesaver’s website, and the public will select the winners by voting for their favourite submission.

How will I know if I have won?

All winners will be announced on May 15th.  
 
The winners in each of the age categories will receive an email or phone call by the middle of May. We will also share some of the entries on Operation Lifesaver’s social media networks throughout April and early May. So, keep an eye on our Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages to see if yours is one of them!
 
(Due to the large number of entries not all artwork will be displayed, and we cannot notify those that are shared.)
